Mayo’s Cameron Haney was in stunning form this evening (Friday), taking a win and a third place finish in two competitions at the five-star Global Champions Tour in Cannes, France.
Both of Hanley’s results came aboard the 10-year-old mare Eis Isaura (Tinka’s Boy x Darco), owned by Equi Invest Showjumping Ltd and previously ridden by Ireland’s Paul Kennedy and Dave Quigley.
In the Prix Hotel Martinez 1m45, Hanley and Eis Isaura were drawn sixth-last to jump of the 31 starters and posted what proved the winning clear round in 61.18 seconds. Tipperary’s Denis Lynch also finished in the prizes, taking fourth place with Fairview Aliquidam.
In the later 1m50 jump-off class, Hanley and Eis Isaura were among 14 who made it into the jump-off where a clear in 36.21 saw them finish third. Victory went to Belgium’s Pieter Devos with Apart in 35.26.
Meanwhile at another five-star show in Treffen, Austria, Tipperary’s Shane Breen finished as runner-up in Friday afternoon’s 1m45 Speed Class with the Irish Sport Horse CSF Vendi Cruz.
All Irish riders competing internationally this weekend are wearing black armbands as a mark of respect to Mayo’s Jack Dodd (25) who died tragically following a car accident in Belgium.
