IRELAND’S nominated Olympic dressage rider, Anna Merveldt, scored 72.575 per cent at the prestigious five-star CDI in Aachen on Sunday.

Competing in the Grand Prix Kür (Freestyle to Music) with her 16 year-old Bavarian Warmblood gelding Coryolano, Milan-based Merveldt finished in 11th place in a star-studded field.

The competition was won by Germany’s Helen  Langehanenberg and Damon Hill NRW on a score of 85.150.

Merveldt is one of only two Irish riders to be awarded the German NF Deutsche Goldenes Reitabzeichen (The Golden Riders Medal) and was the leading Irish equestrian performer at the 1992 Olympics and again at the World Equestrian Games in The Hague in 1994 when placing sixth in the world with Flashdancer.

She has competed at eight European Championships for Ireland, finishing in the top 15 on three separate occasions in 1993, 1997 and 2001 and was a member of the Irish team at the World Equestrian Games in Jerez in 2002 and also competed in Aachen in 2006.
