Two years ago today, Irish riders recorded an amazing five major victories in one day at venues across the world. Shane Sweetnam and Darragh Kenny both scored victories in Mexico, while Trevor Breen and Richard Howley also come out on top in Spain, and Richie Moloney added to the Irish haul with a win in Florida Shane Sweetnam’s win came with the then 17-year-old stallion Cyklon at the opening Longines Global Champions Tour fixture of the season in Mexico, while Darragh Kenny was part of the Paris Panthers team that took the winners prize in the first Global Champions League competition – the Offaly rider partnering with Cassini Z There was further Irish success on the same day at the Winter Equestrian Festival in Florida, when Kilkenny’s Richie Moloney claimed the winners prize in the four-star $35,000 Douglas Elliman 1m45 with the Irish Sport Horse Rocksy Music.
