Tipperary’s Denis Lynch and the 14-year-old stallion All Star have taken third place on the podium in tonight’s five-star Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix in London.
Lynch and All Star were one of 11 combinations who made it through to the jump-off and they raced into the lead with a brilliant clear round in 39.35 seconds when seventh to go against the clock. They were eventually overtaken by Britain’s Scott Brash and Hello Forever who produced the winning clear in 38.62 when second last to go, to take the winners prize of €99,000. Ben Maher and MTF Madame X finished as runners-up when jumping clear in 38.68 when last to go and took home €60,000, while Lynch collected €45,000 for his third place finish. The Tipperary rider had earlier helped Miami Glory to victory in the London leg of the Global Champions League with a clear round aboard RMF Echo.
Afterwards Denis Lynch was delighted with how his horses performed,
“I came with my two best horses so expectations were quite high. We won the [Global Champions] league and third in the Grand Prix so i’m delighted with both horses. He is not the quickest horse All Star and we are all well aware of that. I did less strides maybe here and there but the horses that came after me were naturally quicker horses across the fences and that’s what caught me but i’m delighted with my horse today.”
Denis Lynch was earlier this week named on the Irish Aga Khan squad, sponsored by The Underwriting Exchange and Devenish, for this Friday’s Nations Cup competition at the Dublin Horse Show. He is joined by Bertram Allen, Mark McAuley, Shane Breen and Cian O’Connor with team manager Rodrigo Pessoa set to name his final four riders on Thursday.
