- 11 December 2022, 18:29
Cork’s Shane Sweetnam completed a hugely impressive run of results at Geneva’s five-star show in Switzerland, when he guided the Irish Sport Horse James Kann Cruz to a podium finish in today’s €1.2 Million Rolex Grand Prix – part of the Rolex Grand Slam of Show Jumping.
Sweetnam and the 9-year-old son of Cruising (ISH) [TIH], bred by Patrick Connolly, were among the 13 combinations who jumped clear in the opening round. Another clear in the jump-off in a time of 40.48 seconds would see Sweetnam take third place on the podium and over €180,000 in prize money. The winners prize of over €400,000 went to McLain Ward (USA) and HH Azur, while local favourite Martin Fuchs (SUI) finished as runner-up with Leone Jei.
On Saturday night, Sweetnam claimed a five-star win in Geneva when partnering Alejandro to victory in the Credit Suisse Challenge 1m55. Also in Geneva, Co Down’s Conor Swail and Count Me In took victory in Friday’s five-star 1m50 speed class.
