Showjumping – Irish riders score big in ranking classes

Ireland’s Billy Twomey finished in second place yesterday at the 5 star show in Gijon, Spain, gaining valuable world ranking points. The Cork native finished just behind Abdullah Al Sharbatly (KSA) in the 1.50m sponsored by Funeraria Gijonesa in at time of 45.42. Twomey collected nearly €5,000 with his mount, the 9 year old gelding, Thomas. Dermot Lennon and the Irish Sport Horse mare, Loughview Lou-Lou, were also in good form claiming tenth place.

Last night Paul Kennedy (IRL) clinched victory in the big class of the day, the Alexanders Horseboxes 1.45m, at the 2 star Scope Festival in the UK. From a field of 54 riders, Kennedy stopped the clock in a time of 27.54 to take the top prize on the opening day of the festival. Riding the 10 year old Irish bred mare, Cartown Danger Mouse, Kennedy collected over €8,000 for his victory.
