IRISH riders have stamped their authority on one of the first major three-day events of 2015, with six placed in the top 20 after the dressage phase today (Saturday).

Burgham Horse Trials, held in the north-east of England, hosts both a CIC two star and three star event, and it is in the latter that Ireland is making its mark, with Co. Meath’s Sarah Ennis holding both second and third place, and Patricia Ryan not far behind in sixth.

Ennis has two Irish Sport Horses in the top three – Horseware Stellor Rebound in second place on a dressage score of 40.8, and BLM Diamond Delux in third with 43.3.

Ryan has placed Tullineaskey Hi Ho (ISH) in equal sixth with 47.4, while a little further down the field the Bandon-based eventer also has Dunrath Eclipse (ISH) in 11th place.

Yet another Irish Sport Horse has claimed 14th – the diminutive Portersize Just a Jiff, partnered by Camilla Speirs, while the breed is again represented by Sportsfield Othello in 19th place, ridden by Mullingar’s Joseph Murphy.

The three star class is currently led by Britain’s Gemma Tattersall and Chico Bella P on 33.6 penalty points.
