An outstanding Cross Country performance from Sally Corscadden’s Irish Eventing team of Fred Scala, Sarah Ennis, Brian Morrison and Sam Watson, has seen them climb to second place on the leaderboard with one day remaining in Ireland’s home leg of the FEI Eventing Nations Cup series, which is taking place this weekend at Camphire International Horse Trials in Co Waterford.

Ireland had been lying in fifth place after the opening Dressage phase and shot up the standings when all four of Ireland’s team riders jumped clear Cross Country at the picturesque Waterford venue. The leaderboard is extremely tight heading into Sunday’s final Show Jumping phase. Ireland on 99.50 penalties, are just over a fence behind leaders New Zealand (94.90) while Sweden are third of the eight teams on 103.0.

Irish team manager Sally Corscadden is very pleased with her team’s performance so far but knows the final jumping phase will be crucial:

“Yes i’m really delighted. Great performances from all the team riders across the country today. It’s exciting to have new horse and rider combinations stepping up in class and great to for Sam [Watson] to deliver a classic round inside the time. It’s going to be very close in the Show Jumping tomorrow, so still some work to be done,” she said.

Carlow’s Sam Watson and Imperial Sky (ISH) have taken the lead in the individual competition after a brilliant clear round inside the time to keep them on their Dressage score of 27.70. Meath’s Sarah Ennis lies in eighth place with her individual horse BLM Diamond Delux (ISH) while she is in 20th place with her team horse Woodcourt Garrison (ISH). The third of Ireland’s team riders, Brian Morrison, is in 13th place with Global Orchid (ISH), while an excellent clear Cross Country round inside the time from Irish team rider Fred Scala and Everon Vivendi (ISH), moved the Carlow native up a massive 32 places to 15th.

The FEI Eventing Nations Cup at Camphire will be decided on Sunday afternoon following the final Show Jumping phase.
