IRELAND’S Conor Swail continued his sparkling form at the five-star show in Mannheim, Germany this morning (Friday) with a win in the Two Phase competition.

Piloting Susan Grange’s nine year-old gelding Simba de la Roque,  the County Down-born rider outpaced German challenger Marco Kutscher and the 11 year-old Balermo by just over half a second to collect the 3,750 euro first prize, while Tipperary’s Shane Breen placed fourth in the class with Laura and Meredith Mateo’s gelding Reconnaissance.

Swail, who also rode Simba de la Roque to victory in a major jump-off class in Spruce Meadows, Canada earlier this month, had a second place in the Grand Prix Qualifier at Mannheim yesterday on Ilan Ferder’s Viva Colombia, and has been selected as Ireland’s team anchorman for Saturday’s German Nations’ Cup with Vanessa Mannix’s stallion Grand Cru vd Vijf Eiken.

Breen will be first of the Irish team to jump in the Nations’ Cup with Golden Hawk.
