Sweetnam claims another Irish victory in WEF

Ireland’s Shane Sweetnam began week 9 of the 5* Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) with a win in the $35,000, Douglas Elliman sponsored 1.45m speed class riding Cyklon 1083, owned by Spy Coast Farm LLC. Sweetnam crossed the finish line in a time of 59.25 seconds, followed closely by another Irish rider, Conor Swail riding Susan and Ariel Grange’s Dillinger taking second place in the class.

59 horse and rider combinations took on the 1.45m track with 18 combinations jumping clear rounds in the speed class. None however, could catch Sweetnams 15 year old Swedish warmblood stallion. Thursday sees the next 5* international action for Irish riders based in wellington with the $130,000 Ruby et Violette WEF Challenge Cup.
