Sweetnam Goes Close Again At Spruce Meadows

ALTHOUGH still without a win at the four-star show at Spruce Meadows, Canada, Shane Sweetnam kept the pressure on when grabbing another third place finish last night (Saturday) in the 1m50 CIBC Cup – his third such result in three consecutive days.

The Corkman, riding Easy Contact Humlan, was one of only three to negotiate the opening round without a fault, but picked up four in the decider, as did rival Nicola Philippaerts of Belgium on Challenge VD Begijnakker though in a faster time. However, the ribbons were claimed by Canada’s Eric Lamaze on Coco Bongo, who left everything intact and posted the fastest time as well.

Earlier, Sweetnam had placed 4th with Cyklon and 10th with Bijzander in the 1m45 class, which was won by American Molly Ashe on Balous Day Date.
