Horse Sport Ireland (HSI) is delighted to welcome Andy Thomas to Ireland, to deliver his renowned rider physio workshop which will take place on Tuesday 29th January 2019 at Spruce Lodge Training Facility, Redcross, Co. Wicklow. HSI will award 2 CPD points to this event for all accredited coaches.

Course tutor: Andy Thomas MCSP, HCPC

Andy Thomas is currently the High Performance Human Science and Sports Medicine Advisor to the United States Equestrian Teams and Director of eventphysio ltd. Prior to this, he was the Lead Practitioner for Human Science and Sports Medicine to the British Equestrian Federation for 10 years. He has attended 3 Olympic Games, 4 World Championships and 12 European Championships. An experienced international lecturer in this specialist area, Andy provides a unique insight into the management of the human equestrian athlete, developer of TESTT (Thomas Equestrian Symmetry Types and Tests) a system of assessing imbalances and weaknesses in equestrian riders.

The course will be delivered over 6 hours and is split into 3 key sections:

  • Introduction of common asymmetries and imbalances
  • The developing rider: why do asymmetries occur and the coaches role in their identification both on and off the horse
  • Anatomy and biomechanics of the rider explaining common myths, equestrian terminology and the development of the independent seat

This course is aimed at qualified coaches utilising practical and theoretical learning. Demonstrations of both flatwork and jumping where symmetry is assessed and its effect on performance.
