Trevor Breen wins Bolesworth Puissance with Christopher Megahey in runner-up spot

Tipperary’s Trevor Breen led an Irish one-two finish in Friday’s Equitop Myoplast sponsored Puissance competition at Bolesworth International in the UK.

Breen and the nine-year-old gelding Lord Luidam, who is owned by Millie Mason, were the only combination to jump clear over the big red wall at it’s final height of 2m15 (7ft 5 inches).

Breen, who is now based in the UK, was joined in the fifth and final round by Antrim’s Christopher Megahey and the Irish Sport Horse, Seapatrick Cruise Cavalier. Megahey and his Puissance specialist previously won the Puissance at the Liverpool International Horse Show and the London International Horse Show in Olympia last December. However Megahey and Seapatrick Cruise Cavalier took a single brick out in the deciding round to leave Breen as winner of over €2,000.

It was a spectacular first Bolesworth win for Breen, who came close in 2015 when he finished runner up in the Grand Prix. ‘Tonight I was riding Lord Luidam for Millie Mason who is tied up with exams at the moment. The Puissance wasn’t the original plan but I went in and he just seemed to get better and better. Bolesworth is going from strength to strength, year on year and all credit is owed to Nina and her organising team, Breen said.
