Cork’s Shane Sweetnam has continued the good form shown in helping Ireland to a runner-up finish in last night’s Nations Cup, by scoring a win today (Friday) at Aachen’s five-star show in Germany.
The Cork-born rider came out on top in the Speed and Handiness competition over ditches and banks with the 17-year-old stallion Cyklon, to take the top prize of €6,500. Offaly’s Darragh Kenny also featured in the prizes when finishing fourth with Cacan.
In the earlier Prize of North Rhine-Westfalia jump-off class, Mayo’s Cameron Hanley finished third with Eis Isaura behind American winner McLain Ward with Clinta.
On Thursday night, Sweetnam, Kenny, Hanley and Cian O’Connor were all part of Rodrigo Pessoa’s Irish team that finished second in the Aachen Nations Cup behind winners Germany.
