London 2012 Olympics

Sixteen Irish-bred horses competed at the London
2012 Olympic Games, these included 15 Irish Sport
Horses and one Irish-bred thoroughbred. Four Irish
Sport Horses featured in the top 10 in Eventing, while
two Irish Sport Horses fi nished in the top 20 in Show
Jumping. The Minister for Agriculture, Food and
the Marine, Simon Coveney, issued a press release
congratulating the breeders, commenting:
"This is a fantastic accolade for all the Irish Sport
Horse breeders involved. To breed a horse that is good
enough to be selected for the Olympic Games is a great
honour. Ireland is known throughout the world as a
horse breeding nation and this is even further evidence
of our prowess in the breeding of sport horses."
