The Irish Para Equestrian Team participated in two
Nations' Cups in 2013: CPEDI3* Deauville (FRA) and
CPEDI3* Hartpury (GBR). The Irish Para Equestrian
Team competed at the FEI European Para-Dressage
Championships in Herning, Denmark, where they finished
in 9th place. Businessman Denis O'Brien once again
generously supported the programme in 2013.
Endurance riding is a relatively small sport in Ireland.
However, it has a large international following and the
sport continues to grow with a dedicated following in
Ireland. The focus of this committee during 2013 was on
qualifying Endurance athletes for the World Equestrian
Games in Normandy in 2014. In late September, Tom
MacGuinness, Horseware founder and managing director,
finished in an incredible 2nd place in the Open 120km
endurance race at the 2013 FEI Pan-American Endurance
Championships in Uruguay, riding his own Horseware
competing in FEI CEI2* level races for less than a year,
with his own Horseware LR Artista and Horseware LR
Kim. His FEI World Ranking moved into the top 500,
from a position of 1,595 in June 2013.
