HSI Mare Inspections
Mare Inspections for the Irish Sport Horse Studbook and Irish Draught Horse Studbook are carried out at
regional venues annually in the spring and autumn. Mares must be a minimum of 3 years of age to be presented
for inspection, although Irish Draught mares can be inspected at 2 years of age. Mares undergo a veterinary
examination and are assessed on conformation and movement using linear profiling. Movement is assessed in hand
and loose in an arena. Owners can choose to have their mare's athleticism assessed through loose jumping for
additional merits.
