In 2015, Horse Sport Ireland (HSI), in conjunction with the
Irish Institute of Sport, undertook a review of the High
Performance Programme, with the goal of Rio 2016 Olympics
in mind. One of the key recommendations was to formulate
a smaller squad in advance of the 2016 Olympics. On 23rd
February, 2015, the Rio squad was announced. Throughout
the course of the season, athletes were evaluated and a squad
review system was implemented. The highlight of the 2015
programme was when the Irish Eventing Team won their
first-ever Eventing Nations Cup at Boekelo in October. With
Olympic qualification secured in 2014, the Eventing Team
travelled to the European Eventing Championships at Blair
Castle, Great Britain, in September 2015.
