Horse Sport Ireland Mare Selections
Mare selections for the Irish Sport Horse Studbook and Irish Draught Horse Studbook are carried out at regional venues
annually in spring and autumn. Mares must be a minimum of three years of age to be presented for selection, although
Irish Draught mares can be presented for selection at two years of age in autumn. Mares undergo a veterinary examination
and are assessed on conformation and movement using linear profiling. Movement is assessed in-hand and loose in an
arena. Owners can choose to have their mare's athleticism assessed through loose jumping for additional merits.
