2025 updates to the Irish Draught genetic diversity calculations

Horse Sport Ireland (HSI) are delighted to announce the 2025 updates to the Irish Draught genetic diversity calculations are now available to breeders.

Last year, HSI published the 2024 Irish Draught Genetic Diversity Report that offered an in-depth analysis of the genetic diversity of the Irish Draught horse breed from the comprehensive data available in the studbook database. As detailed in this report, the mean kinship of a specific animal will change over time as more foals are born and a population changes. Thus, it is important to monitor these changes at regular intervals.

The 2025 mean kinship values for Irish Draught mares are now available to all Irish Draught Studbook mare owners. Anyone who wishes to receive a 2-page digital report on their mare (€12 inc VAT) can order them HERE. These individual reports include:

· Mean kinship

· Pedigree completeness at generation 4

· Inbreeding %

· Thoroughbred %

· Relatedness to the following 6 stallions that were previously identified by breeders as the most influential stallions: Mountain Heather, Errigal, Milestone, King of Diamonds, Ben Purple, and Pride of Shaunlara.

Please note that these are only available to mares who are registered in the Irish Draught Horse Studbook of origin operated by Horse Sport Ireland.
