Breeding & Production
Horse Sport Ireland maintains the breeding programmes of the following studbooks: Irish Sport Horse, Irish Draught, Irish Sports Pony and Irish Cob and Irish Part-Bred Cob under license by the competent authority, the Department of Agriculture Food and the Marine (DAFM). Horse Sport Ireland administers the studbook for the Kerry Bog Pony Co-Operative Society (Kerry Bog Pony studbook).
Horse Sport Ireland delivers the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) funded National Breeding Services (NBS). The aim of NBS is to stimulate the growth and development of the Irish equine breeding and production sector. These schemes and initiatives are developed to disseminate funding to support Irish breeders to develop, implement and improve their breeding programmes, ultimately supporting informed breeding and production decisions.
The Breeding & Production Advisory Forum comprises representatives of other studbook authorities and breed societies. The role of the forum is to consult, advise and provide guidance in relation to the National Breeding Services Schemes and production activities.
