Breeding programmes
Horse Sport Ireland (HSI) provides studbook services for the following breeds via an awarded tender from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM).
- Irish Sport Horse (ISH)
- Irish Sport Pony
- Irish Draught (ID)
- Irish Cob
- Irish Part-bred Cob
These services are delivered through the Horse Sport Ireland HorseSource platform and include registration, passporting, and other related processes.
In addition, HSI administers the Kerry Bog Pony studbook on behalf of the Kerry Bog Pony Co-Operative Society.


Irish Sport Horse studbook
The Irish Sport Horse (ISH) breed originates from the 1920’s when breeders first began to cross Irish Draught and thoroughbred stock.
Irish Draught studbook
The Irish Draught Horse developed as a working horse on Irish farms with references to the breed dating as far back as the 18th century.


Irish Sport Pony studbook
The Irish Sport Pony (ISP) studbook was established in 2016 to develop an Irish pony breed suitable of competing at the highest level in FEI disciplines.
Irish Cob and Irish Cob Part-Bred studbook
The Irish Cob is a native Irish breed and although it has a long history the studbook was only officially founded in 1998.


Kerry Bog Pony studbook
Up to the 1960s Kerry Bog Ponies had been used for taking milk to the creameries, bringing turf in from the bog and harvesting seaweed.
