Parentage Discovery Testing: Sport Horse (€150)

This is the basic pedigree discovery test for sport horses and ponies. The fee includes genotyping (if not already carried out), parentage testing, a search for other/missing relatives and a breed composition test which will indicate the potential breed of the the animal. Breeds including in composition testing include the main Irish Sport Horse composite breeds; Irish Draught, Connemara Pony, Thoroughbred, and Continental Warmbloods.

  • Parents can be assumed or completely unknown
    Establish parentage, where sire/dam are existing with the HSI genomic database
  • Potential to add parents to animals existing identify document
  • Pending breeding programme rules in studbook of interest, eligibility to update to a studbook passport

    – i.e. where an animal on an identity document with no breeding recorded is round to have a TB dam and an ISH sire, the animal would be eligible to enter the ISH breeding programme (passport upgrade fee with the studbook will apply)
  • Studbook animals can engage with DAFM funded schemes
  • Improve the pedigree recording and accuracy of related genetic and genomic information related to the horse (inbreeding, Kinships, Pedigree completeness indices, Estimates Breeding Values (EBVs) where applicable etc)
  • Increased marketability of Studbook animal

Parentage Discovery Testing: ID/CP/KBP/IRC (€100)

This is the basic breed assignment test for our native/rare breeds includes genotyping (if not already carried out), parentage testing, a search for other relatives if parentage testing is not successful and a breed composition test which will indicate the potential breed the animal is. Breeds including in composition testing include the Irish Draught, Thoroughbred, Connemara Pony, Irish Cob, Kerry Bog Pony, and Continental Warmblood breeds for comparison.

  • Parents can be assumed or completely unknown
    Establish parentage, where sire/dam are existing with the HSI genomic database
  • Potential to add parents to animals existing identify document
  • Pending breeding programme rules in studbook of interest, eligibility to update to a studbook passport
    • i.e. where an animal on an identity document with no breeding recorded is round to have a CP dam and an CP sire, the animal would be eligible to enter the ISH breeding programme (passport upgrade fee with the CP will apply)
  • Studbook animals can engage with DAFM funded schemes through National Breeding Services and may gain eligibility for DAFM operated ACRES.
  • Improve the pedigree recording and accuracy of related genetic and genomic information related to the horse (inbreeding, Kinships, Pedigree completeness indices etc)
  • Increased marketability of Studbook animal

Genomic Grade Up for Irish Draught Horses (€200)

Test to determine if your mare or stallion is eligible for inclusion in the Irish Draught Studbook breeding programme under the genomic grade up rule. This is suitable for horses with unknown or missing sections of pedigree who are of Draught types or thought to be Irish Draught horses.

  • Parents can be assumed or completely unknown
  • Establish parentage, where sire/dam are existing with the HSI genomic database
  • Potential to add parents/ancestry to animals existing identify document
  • Pending breeding programme rules in studbook of interest, eligibility to update to a studbook passport
    • i.e. where an animal meets the genetic and ADMixture requirements the animal would be eligible to enter or be recorded as Genomic Grade Up in the supplementary section of the ID breeding programme (passport upgrade fee applies)
    • Animals who meet the Genomic Grade Up criteria and have a passport update can breed into the Irish Draught breeding programme under the existing Breeding Programme rules
  • Studbook animals can engage with DAFM funded schemes through National Breeding Services and may gain eligibility for DAFM operated ACRES.
  • Improve the pedigree recording and accuracy of related genetic and genomic information related to the horse (inbreeding, Kinships, Pedigree completeness indices etc)
  • Increased marketability of Studbook animal
