Horse Sport Ireland attended the MEP Horse Group meeting in the European Parliament last week hosted by Irish MEP Nina Carberry and Hilde Vautmans MEP from Belgium.

HSI was represented by Head of Breeding, Innovation and Development, Dr. Sonja Egan, and Public Affairs and Government Relations Executive, Mike Bray.

The MEP Horse Group meeting focused on the ongoing review of the animal health laws, transparency and traceability in the equine sector, and the identification and registration of equidae.

Newly elected European Equestrian Federation (EEF) President Quentin Simonet was also in attendance. HSI held a meeting with Quentin along with Catherine Bonnichon – de Rancourt of the French Equestrian Federation.

Sonja and Mike also met Irish MEPs Ciaran Mullooly, Michael McNamara and Sean Kelly when in Brussels, taking the opportunity to highlight the importance of the horse sport sector to the Irish economy as well as the challenges and opportunities facing the sector at Irish and European level.

Horse Sport Ireland thanks Nina Carberry and the MEP Horse Group for their invitation and for giving HSI the opportunity to contribute to the discussion on the future of the sector in Europe.
