Darragh Kenny rounded off his season in superb style at the ExCel Arena, London, by winning the CSI5* FEI Longines Jumping World Cup, presented by Agria, on board Eddy Blue.
Kenny gave an exhibition in jump-off riding on his way to taking the win in the eighth leg of Western European League on board the 12-year-old gelding.
The pair produced a clear round in a time of 34.76 seconds to set the standard in the five-horse jump-off from second draw of the five qualified combinations.
Ben Maher with Point Break finished second, the only other double clear round in 35.15 seconds, with Robert Whitaker and Vermento taking third place with four faults in 37.89.
Tim Gredley and Imperial HBF, first to go in the jump-off, finished fourth and the top five was rounded out by Sophie Hinners riding Iron Dames my Prins.
“This feels amazing,” said Kenny. “I’ve watched this show since I was four years old and to win here is just unbelievable. Just to be here is great and the crowd are the best ever – it’s such a thrill to win here.
“The horse has been in great form all week and he jumped unbelievable today.
“I really just went as fast as I could on him and hoped it was good enough. The lads coming behind me are up there with the best in the world but it was just my day today.”
“I’ve had a fantastic 2024, I’m really lucky to have brilliant owners and brilliant staff. They’re the ones who keep everything going and I get to enjoy it.”
