Tight at the top for Tattersalls Final
- 26 July 2024, 21:42
The sixth and penultimate leg of the 2024 DAFM Studbook Series, delivered by Horse Sport Ireland; the National Federation, took place at the National Balmoral Premier Series show over the weekend on July 20th and 21st. This leg saw the 6-Year-Old horses go against the clock in Sunday’s final for the first time in a change to the format for 2024 from other years.
In the 7-Year-Old class it was Cork’s Shane Dalton who made the trip north worthwhile for Co. Kilkenny based Ennisnag Stud with the KWPN stallion Mendoza VDL, a fully approved stallion in the Warmblood Studbook of Ireland. Their double clear time of 43.24 was good enough for the win and to take home the Vera Frazer Cup. A relatively new pairing having jumped their first show together in May at the fourth leg of the DAFM Studbook Series in Barnadown, they have been consistently clear ever since, including finishing second in the fifth leg of the series in Maryville and now find themselves sitting on top of the League Leaderboard heading into final leg in Tattersalls.
Second place went to Emma O’Dwyer with Dougie Drea (ISH) who were double clear in a time of 43.58 with Balypatrick Stables based Britiash rider Harry Wood filling the podium when finishing double clear in a time of 43.78 with BP Lion Man (ISH).
In the 6-Year-Old class, it was another Ballypatrick based rider who claimed the spoils when Leah Stack rode Luisa (ISH) to victory in double clear time of 42.18 just fractionally ahead of Jason Foley and Ballyshan B F Super Hero (ISH) who were double clear in a time of 42.22 seconds. Third place went to Jason’s brother Max Foley with HHS Arezzo (ISH), double clear in a time of 45.66 to fill the podium. Max Foley also finished fourth in the class with HHS Kingston (ISH).
This result now means that Max sits in joint third place in the overall leaderboard with two horses HHS Kingston (ISH) and Sandro Van De Berghoeve (BWP) on 13 points, one point behind second place Vincent Byrne with CSF Thomascourt Zena (ISH) on 14 points.
Nicholas Connors sits one further point ahead at the top of the leaderboard on 15 points with Jump The Gun (WSI).
With four horses separated by just two points, it’s all to play for coming into the final leg in Tattersalls.
The 5-Year-Old class was once again divided among the double clears. Tipperary’s Darragh Ryan was one of those to jump double clear in , among the double clears were ABC Jaytee Flamenco (ISH) ridden by Molly Hughes-Bravo and bred by Pat Kehoe in Co Carlow. This gelding is by the recently deceased international Grand Prix winning stallion of Billy Twomey’s Je t’Aime Flamenco (BWP) and out of ABC Tiny Dancer (ISH) who counts the international perfromers ABC Quantum Cruise (ISH), ABC Cortana Cruise (ISH) and the 2022 6-Year-Old World Champion ABC Saving Grace (ISH) amongst her siblings.
Shane Dalton was back amongst the double clear rounds again for Co. Kilkenny’s Ennisnag Stud with the Warmblood Studbook Ireland-approved stallion Uricas HH Z (ZANG) to put their first points on the board.
Darragh Ryan and Gurtera Venture MF (ISH) still sit at the top of the 5-Year-Old table of the as we approach the final of the 2024 DAFM Studbook Series.
