The ‘sunny south-east’ lived up to its name over the weekend as the sun shone over Barnadown for their four-day show, featuring the fifth leg of the DAFM showjumping Studbook Series. This was a two-day leg with the qualifier classes on Saturday 10th and the finals on Sunday 11th of May. The series is delivered by Horse Sport Ireland, and funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food, and the Marine (DAFM) under National Breeding Services.
Over 200 horses lined up across the three age classes on Saturday which started at the early hour of 7:30 am with the first of the 95 five-year-old horses. Thirty-four of these produced a double clear round to go forward to the final on Sunday where fifteen of these jumped a second double clear to split the €2,500 prize fund. The Warmblood Studbook of Ireland approved stallion Unicum-H (BWP) was one of the fifteen double clears and now sits in joint first at the head of the leaderboard with the German bred mare MCG Carrow Kuhnstuck (WESTF), who was also double clear both days.

Thirty-six of the eighty-seven starters proceeded to Sunday’s six-year-old final where twenty-one of these combinations produced a second double clear. The double clear from Tholm Keane and Galwaybay Winningmood (ISH) now sees them sit at the head of the leaderboard in this division.

Gemma Phelan and GRC Casper (ISH) took the honors in the seven-year-old qualifier on Saturday evening securing their spot in the final on Sunday. A competitive afternoon’s jumping on Sunday saw eight horses deliver a first round clear with four of these producing a double clear. The fastest double clear was the Ann Connors owned Chelone Z (ZANG), ridden by Emma O’Dwyer. These were followed closely by young rider Niamh McEvoy riding the Irish Sport Horse stallion Boleybawn Alvaro (ISH). The podium was filled by Daren Hopkins riding PMH Spencer (ISH) in third.

The series will now take a break while horses are aimed at the RDS qualifiers. The next leg of the series will take place at Maryville Stables on the 5th and 6th of July. More information about the series is available by clicking HERE
