Simon McCarthy and Gotcha won the CSI4* $39,000 Wellington Equestrian Realty 1.45m in Wellington, Florida on Thursday afternoon.
The Norwegian-born Corkman had a fantastic performance with a clear round and the fastest time of 57.28 seconds. Galway’s David O’Brien was on El Balou Old and landed second place with a clear round, just short of first by 1.4 seconds.
Germany’s Richard Vogel filled the podium on board Jonage LVP, just over a second behind O’Brien.
To continue his recent good form, Wexford’s Bertram Allen and Caprisco finished in sixth position.
McCarthy and Gotcha have been in good form this winter with a podium finish at Desert Horse Park in a 1.50m CSI5* as well as a fourth place finish in the CSI2* $100,000 Lugano Diamonds 1.45m FEI Grand Prix. They have also had top 10 finishes in recent weeks at Wellington.
When speaking about his performance McCarthy said:
“I’m delighted to get the win here at WEF with Gotcha and very grateful to her owners Dan and Doug Towriss. I haven’t done a lot with her during the circuit to try have her fresh for the summer shows in America and it seems like she’s peaking just in time for that.”
