National Breeding Services Schemes open for 2024
Horse Sport Ireland are delighted to announce the opening of the 2024 National Breeding Services schemes, funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine. These schemes contribute to the Young Horse Pathway delivered by Horse Sport Ireland. This pathway is open and available to all studbook breeders, producers, and owners in Ireland. This pathway provides breeders with support for the breeding and production of sport horses. These schemes provide support for all aspects of the sport horse sector with something for all breeders and all studbooks at virtually each stage or age of the horse’s life; from conception to 7/8 years. They also provide opportunities for horse and pony breeders nationwide to add value to their herd, in terms of both breeding, performance and market value. DAFM Studbook Series – Update
Horse Sport Ireland wish to advise stakeholders of the below in relation to the 2024 DAFM Studbook Series: The 2024 DAFM Studbook Series begins on the 13th April in Tipperary Equestrian Centre, entries are now open on SJIlive and will close at 8pm on Thursday. The 2024 DAFM Studbook Series will run affiliated with Showjumping Ireland and as per the rules and articles linked HERE. The series will not be livestreamed on clipmyhorse as stated in prior press releases however HSI will continue to pursue this as a possibility for the industry The series will be livestreamed via ShowjumpingIreland, Irish Horse Board and Horse Sport Ireland websites. We look forward to beginning this series at Tipperary Equestrian Centre this week, which promises to be a great Saturday of show jumping for young horses, and a wonderful start to the league!
Horse Sport Ireland open Department of Agriculture-funded DAFM Studbook Series
Horse Sport Ireland (HSI) is delighted to launch the 2024 DAFM Studbook Series for Show Jumping taking place in nationwide from April to July. This Series is delivered by Horse Sport Ireland, and funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food, and the Marine (DAFM) under National Breeding Services. The 2024 series is open to all DAFM-approved studbooks with a total prize fund of €89,300. Following extensive feedback, the 2024 Studbook Series will implement several positive changes towards young horse production, horse welfare, course design and promotion: The series will take place over four two-day and three one-day shows, with a break occurring over the RDS qualifier dates. Each leg will have a new maximum height allowance to facilitate the gradual production of young horses. Horse Sport Ireland (HSI) are delighted to launch the DAFM Studbook Series for Eventing taking place in regions nationwide from April to September. This DAFM Studbook Series is gratefully supported with a total prize fund of €65,000 by the Department of Agriculture, Food, and the Marine (DAFM) under National Breeding Services. Dates listed below, please note all entries are handled through Eventing Ireland: Date Venue Leg 1: Sunday 7th April Lisgarvan House (Co. Carlow) Leg 2: Sunday 19th May Kilguikey (Co. Irish Draught Horse Studbook Rules
Horse Sport Ireland have published the updated Irish Draught Horse studbook rules. Please note the below rule changes and updates that Irish Draught breeders should be aware of. The Irish Draught amnesty has been re-introduced with immediate effect, see section (5.1.4). The amnesty will be in place for a three-year period and is for animals to be classified during that time. This amnesty does not extend to animals that’s year of birth is within the three-year amnesty time frame. This amnesty is effective immediately and the triennial period will expire on the 31st December 2026. The studbook has introduced a novel kinship classification method for targeting rare breed mares within the studbook (see section 5.1.2.1). Where the mare meets the kinship percentage for the year in question they will be classified as ‘Class 1’.
