Dressage prize winners crowned in Horse Sport Ireland Autumn Development Series at Greenogue while Kate Derwin wins HSI Autumn Grand Prix in Cavan

The latest rounds of action in the Horse Sport Ireland Autumn Development Series took place at the weekend, with Dressage competitions sponsored by HSI taking place at Greenogue Equestrian and the Show Jumping Grand Prix sponsored by HSI held at Cavan Equestrian Centre.

Greenogue saw large entries in many of the Dressage competitions which catered for all levels, with some of Ireland’s ‘Girls In Green’ that achieved Olympic Qualification at last year’s European Championships among the starters.

The Grand Prix was won by Heike Holstein and the Irish-bred mare Sambuca on a score of 71.96% while the Intermediaire II saw Sarah Mellor and Let’s Dance  take victory (67.94%) . The Advanced Medium was won by Rosemary Gaffney and Chantal (69.87%), with the Advanced competition being won by Marguerite Kavanagh and Fidette (66.56%).  Kevin Acres and Ganesh scored 70.29% in the Prix St George to take the win, while the Intermediaire I was won by Petra Larkin and Jarlos (64.41%).

Heike Holstein and Kingston Forget Me Not produced a score of 78.87% to win the Novice class, and the Young Horse Novice was won by Tabitha Millar Hagerty with Ballykealy Clover Chin when scoring 70.65%. The Warm Up Elementary saw Sorrell Klatzko take victory with Gold Game (69.07%) while the Elementary was won by Tara Oliver with Ballymacmague Swallow on 70.17%.

There was another win for Heike Holstein in the Young Horse Elementary with Kingston Forget Me Not (70.17%) and the Warm Up Medium was won by Kate Dwyer with Vaalserberg. The Medium saw Tara Oliver and Senators Rhonaldo score 70.29 % to take victory, while the Warm Up Advanced Medium was won by Bernie Foley and Yasmina V (63.17%). The Warm Up Preliminary was won by Lianne O’ Shea and Othello with a score of 67.50%, while the Preliminary competition saw Finn O’ Gara and Christa take the top prize on a score of 70.60%. Sorrell Klatzko and Don Juan’s Doll took the top honours in the Young Horse Preliminary (80.60%) while the Warm Up Novice was won by Sandra Blake Farrell and Delores (72.50%).

Kate Derwin wins Horse Sport Ireland Autumn Development Series Grand Prix at Cavan

Sunday’s Horse Sport Ireland Autumn Development Series Grand Prix at Cavan Equestrian Centre saw Athlone’s Kate Derwin take victory with the Jim Derwin-owned Irish Sport Horse Deep Pockets. A total of €6,000 was on offer for the 57 starters and Derwin’s double clear in 44.52 seconds saw her take the winners prize with Deep Pockets (ISH), an 11-year-old gelding by OBOS Quality 004 (OLD) out of Simply Chic (ISH)[TIH] by Cruising (ISH)[TIH], bred by Charles Pidgeon in Co. Westmeath.

John McEntee and Hip Girl finished as runners-up in a time of 45.80, while Philip Gaw and Ardnacashel Coovella claimed third spot with another clear in 50.26. Edward Doyle Jnr with Billy Kat finished fourth (51.35) ahead of Capt. Charlene Kehoe in fifth with Shannondale Rahona (56.29) and Grace McHugh in sixth with Berlios Van De Kapel (57.95).
