HSI Foal Qualifier Results from Tubberbride EC, Bridestown EC &The Meadows EC
- 16 September 2021, 13:05
The Foal Championship aims to identify, evaluate, and reward breeders who have bred a foal that has the potential to be competitive at the highest level in the disciplines of show jumping or eventing.
The first three HSI foal qualifiers took place on Monday 23rd August at Tubberbride Equestrian Centre, Tuesday 31st August at Bridestown Equestrian Centre and Wednesday 8th September at the Meadows Equestrian Centre.
The qualifier in Tubberbride was judged by Tiernan Gill and Philip Scott and the qualifiers in Bridestown and the Meadows was judged by Michael Hutchinson and Shane Flavin.
Judge Tiernan Gill commented “The Tubberbride foal championship qualifier was very well supported, with well-bred foals presented. The turnout of the foals was impressive indeed, this is very encouraging to see how much the Irish breeders have taken on board the importance of presentation for the championship and for sale purposes. I have been impressed that the standard of foals around the country has improved, with regards to preparation and presentation we are well up there now with our European counterparts. It’s fantastic to see that Irish breeders know what is required if they want to get a good return on their foals. You only get one chance to impress a potential investor in your stock – the world is a small place, but the marketplace is very big. It is evident to see people are now more educated, and informed and it’s very encouraging for the future of Irish breeders and breeding in general.”
Judge Shane Flavin commented on the Bridestown qualifier “it’s a great class to support the breeders with very good prize money going directly to the breeder and helping to improve the standard of the competition foal. It’s a pity it’s not more supported in the South.”
Judge Michael Hutchinson commented on the Meadows qualifier “this qualifier had plenty of entries presented that were a high standard of well-produced foals. Running championships like these for foals should improve the market which is what breeders would like.”
We would like to congratulate the winners of these first three qualifiers and will see them all again at the Final on Tuesday 19th October in Cavan Equestrian Centre.
