IRELAND’s Conor Swail took the honours in today’s (Saturday) $24,000 opening class at the five-star meeting in Saugerties, New York.
The Down rider, partnering Fortis Fortuna, was one of ten to make it into the jump-off, and prevailed by a fraction in the decider in which only a third of a second split the first three places.
American Julie Welles finished second on Virginia WZ, with Venezuelan Pablo Barrios third on board Chaco 34.
A single error ruled Cormac Hanley and Venus out of the decider in this event, but later in the day, the Mayoman posted a clear round on board Twan in the $250,000 Vetera XP Vaccines Prix, which concludes tomorrow (Sunday).
Tomorrow’s action also features the $1million Grand Prix, in which Swail will partner Viva Columbia, while Kevin Babington will ride Shorapur.
