  • 3 July 2016, 12:25

The All Ireland Young Show Person Championship took place at Dunmanway Agricultural Show in County Cork on Sunday 3rd of July, renowned as one of the highlights on the showing circuit each summer.

The class was open to persons 16 years and over who had not attained their 24th birthday on the day of the final, showing a horse or pony (over 148cm) of any breed in hand, provided that they are registered in an approved studbook. The animals shown must have be bred or owned by the competitor or their relative. The competition was judged by Rebecca Monahan under the criteria of demonstrating understanding of safety when handling and showing horses, skill in showing their animal in hand (walk, trot up, stand for conformation) and the overall impression, sportsmanship and courtesy, including appropriate attire and turnout.

Well known pony exhibitor Aidan Williamson took the championship title with Hollycreek Sir Bradley (ISH) by Floating Clover (ISH) out of Your My Star (ISH), bred by Denis McCarthy and owned by Josephine O’Driscoll. He was presented with the Eleanor Moore Trophy and €500 by judge Rebecca Monahan and Paddy McCarthy representing Horse Sport Ireland.

Reserve champion in this class was Sam Kingston with Carrigbawn Joy (RID) by Fast Silver (ID) out of Carrigbawn Doll (RID), bred and owned by Jim Kingston.

This class was sponsored by Horse Sport Ireland under the 2016 Breeding Grant. The Dunmanway agricultural show was one of 24 applicants awarded funding following an evaluation of applications by the Breeding Grant Evaluation Committee.
