Paralympic Games kick off this weekend

The 2016 Paralympic Games take place in Rio De Janeiro (BRA) from 7th to 18th September. The equestrian competitions will kick off this Sunday at the Olympic Equestrian Centre. Ireland will be represented by Helen Kearney with Rock And Roll 2. They begin their Paralympic competition on Monday 12th September. The Individual Championship takes place on Thursday 15th, followed by the Freestyle Championship on Friday 16th September.
Team Ireland Equestrian showjumpers will compete at four separate 5 star shows this weekend. The $2,000,000 Rolex Grand Prix takes place at Calgary Spruce Meadows (CAN) on Sunday at 19.00 GMT. The next leg of the Global Champions Tour takes place Rome Foro Italica (ITA). 5 star action also takes place at Lausanne (SUI) and Saugerties New York (USA), with the $1,000,000 taking place on Sunday.
Elsewhere on the showjumping circuit, Irish riders will fly the flag at Paderborn (GER), Bonheiden (BEL), Kronenberg (NED), Ising Am Chiemsee (GER), Le Touquet (FRA) and Arezzo (ITA). In eventing, Ireland will be represented at Blenheim (GBR).
This week in excess of 70 international entries have been made for 33 Irish riders, who compete in nine different countries.
