AN IRISH Sport Horse, Bay My Hero, is top of the leaderboard at the prestigious Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event after the cross country phase, with two others in the top six.

Ridden by Britain’s William Fox Pitt, the Bryan Maguire-bred Cult Hero gelding overtook the overnight leader, the USA’s Alison Springer and Arthur, to hold pole position before Sunday’s show jumping phase.

In third place is Mr. Medicott, sired by the famous Irish Sport Horse Cruising, bred by Dr. D. Geaney and ridden by the USA’s Phillip Dutton. Sixth place is held by the USA’s Buck Davidson Jr. aboard the Ramiro B bay gelding Ballynoe Castle RM, bred in Ireland by Sylvester Cullen.

Ireland’s only rider at Kentucky, Tim Bourke and the Irish Sport Horse Luckaun Quality, bred by Ronan Sheehan, were eliminated after a fall at the third fence from home on their four-star cross country debut, but both horse and rider escaped without serious injury.

Sunday’s show jumping phase will decide the outright winner of the USA’s only four-star three day event.
