Padraig McCarthy, International Event Rider, and Team Ireland Eventing Quad Member WEG 2018: “I believe that the Embryo Transfer Scheme is probably the most significant initiative from HSI to support the breeding, and breeders of top class young horses in recent years. I am delighted to have two mares who qualify for the scheme, and the grants provided per embryo makes it possible/affordable to produce multiple pregnancies from a good mare in each breeding season.

From a national perspective the scheme is leading to an increase in the number of high quality foals born each year in Ireland and is simultaneously incentivising breeders to invest in top class breeding mares who are eligible for the scheme”.
