Horse Sport Ireland Autumn Development Series 2020 – Arena Eventing Barnadown 2021

The final leg of the Horse Sport Ireland Autumn Development Series 2020 took place Sunday, 21st March in Barnadown Equestrian Centre. This event was due to take place at the end of 2020, however, due to Covid-19 restrictions it was postponed until this spring.

ARENA EVENTING

The Arena Eventing series, featuring five, six and seven-year-old classes, saw great competition from High-Performance athletes and Professional Producers and their up-and-coming young horses. This event followed on from the penultimate leg in Wexford Equestrian Centre and both competitions acted as a vital experience for these young horses to gain confidence for the upcoming season.

The seven-year-old class saw eight out of the 10 starters produce double clear rounds. The eventual winner of the class was Joanne Corish and Lates Caralier (ISH), owned by Thomas Corish and bred by Thomas Fitzgerald, from Co. Kilkenny. Lates Caralier (ISH) is by Harlequin Du Carel (SF), out of Rosconael Cavalier (ISH) by Cavalier Royale (HOLST). Leading from start to finish, Corish took the win finishing on a dressage score of 30. Hot on her heels in second place was Paul Donovan and Enniscrone Rollar Boy (ISH) on a score of 30.3. Third place went to Ruth Robinson and Jungle Cat Orchid (ISH) on a score of 30.8.

SIX-YEAR-OLD CLASS

The six-year-old class saw victory go to Emma Hosey and her own, Borris Kings Quality (ISH) out of a field of 17 starters. Borris Kings Quality (ISH) is by Kings Master (ISH)[TIH] out of Borris Quality (ISH) by OBOS Quality 004 (OLD) and was bred by Joseph Skelton, from Co. Carlow. Hosey jumped a perfect double clear to finish on a dressage score of 28. Second and third place both finished on the same score of 28.3 and on count back, Caitlin Pretorius and Joyce L (ISH) claimed second place. Third place went to last week’s winner, Christine O’Donnell and BGK Valentine.

The largest field of the day, with 32 starters, was the five-year-old class. Over half of the field produced double clear rounds. Second-last to go, Meabh Bolger and her own MBF Back to Back (ISH), topped the field on a score of 25.3. MBF Back to Back (ISH) is by Metropole (KWPN) out of Aughmore Irokos Dream (ISH) by Iroko (WESTF), and was bred by Liam Duffin from Co. Wexford. Second place went to Louise Codd and Monbeg Ainslie (ISH) on 26.30. Third place went to Amanda Goldsbury and Tullibards Evita (ISH).
