Swail now highest-place of Ireland’s riders in World top100

US-based Conor Swail has for the first time taken the lead amongst Irish riders in the official Longines World Show Jumping Rankings published today (Tuesday).

Co. Down-born Swail tweeted tonight: “Highest Ranked Irish rider in the World at No 27. Been an unreal year for me since I started with my new owners Sue & Ariel Grange & family!”

Ireland currently boasts seven riders in the Top 100 rankings, covering competitions during the month of November.

Tipperary’s Denis Lynch is also in the Top 50, placed at 30th, while a second Tipperary rider, Shane Breen, is up two places at 36th.

Olympic Bronze Medallist Cian O’Connor is up five places in the rankings at 44th.

Cork’s Shane Sweetnam drops two places to 56th, while Wexford’s 18 year-old Bertram Allen has improved his position by five places to claim 64th in the leaderboard. Mayo’s Cameron Hanley has also improved his position in this month’s table, moving up three places to joint 71st.

Cork’s Billy Twomey is just outside the top 100 at No. 107, while US-based Kilkenny rider Richie Moloney is one place behind at 108th.

The Longines World Show Jumping rankings, published by the world governing body the FEI, measure the performances of over 2,000 international riders each month, and the current leader is Britain’s Scott Brash, who has narrowly ousted fellow-countryman Ben Maher from his three month run at the top. Germany’s Ludger Beerbaum comes in at third position in the rankings.
