Darragh Kenny added to this weekend’s growing list of Irish international Show Jumping wins, when taking top spot in this evening’s (Saturday) feature class at Zandhoven in Belgium. The Offaly rider guided Fixdesign Funke Van’t Heike to a double clear round in 36.45 seconds, to push Brazil’s Marlon Modolo Zanotelli into second place with Rock’N Roll Semilly.
At the five-star Spanish show in Gijon, three Irish riders finished in the top five in a 1m45 speed class. Cork’s Billy Twomey took runner-up spot with the Irish Sport Horse Ardcolum Duke, while Cian O’Connor (Aramis) finished fourth, one place ahead of Anthony Condon and Balzac in fifth. Julien Epaillard snatched the winners prize for France with Sheriff de la Nutria LM.
Meanwhile at the four-star French show in Valence, Marion Hughes and The Irish Sport Horse Heritage HHS Fortuna finished fourth in a 1m50 speed class. Hughes and Heritage HHS Fortuna had scored a win at the same venue on Friday.
Earlier Shane Carey and Contenance 15 scored their second win of the weekend at Ciekocinko in Poland. Having tasted victory in Friday’s 1m40 class, the pair also landed the bigger 1m45 jump-off competition on Saturday, collecting a winner’s prize of almost €25,000.
Saturday’s victories for Shane Carey and Darragh Kenny brings to five the total number of Irish Show Jumping wins so far this weekend, with Bertram Allen, Marion Hughes and Carey scoring a hat-trick of wins on Friday.
