Many equestrian fans will have noticed the proliferation of equine hydrotherapy as part of equine training programmes in recent years. The reality is equine hydrotherapy has been around for quite some time, but with the rise of social media you now see top athletes such as Cian O’Connor and Cathal Daniels regularly incorporating hydrotherapy into their horses training.

Here is what Cian O’Connor had to say about the use of hydrotherapy as part of his horses’ training programmes: “I’m very much behind it. The benefits of hydrotherapy are of huge interest to us at Karlswood and that’s why we have a purpose-built spa barn”.

Fiona is an Equine Hydrotherapist who specialises in the use of water treadmills for Equine Rehabilitation and performance, working in international competition yards worldwide such as Cian O’Connor’s Karlswood Stables, Coolmore Showjumping and Bourns Sport. Fiona trains horses to use water treadmills and spas and then develops programmes for each individual horse, working with dressage horses, racehorses, show horses, hunters, eventers, show ponies, event ponies etc. All from beginner level up to Grand Prix.

Fiona will be delivering a webinar titled: ‘The Use of Equine Hydrotherapy in Performance Horses’ on Tuesday 13th April 2021 at 6pm via Zoom. The webinar costs just €25 per person and is open to all coaches, riders, owners and breeders who are interested in finding out more about hydrotherapy for performance and rehabilitation. There will also be 1 CPD point awarded to all HSI Accredited Coaches in attendance.
