- 25 July 2013, 15:09
CAVAN Equestrian Centre is set to be a hive of activity next week as it plays host to the annual IPS Championship Show which runs from the 1st – 3rd of August. Now in its 47th year, the popular event has expanded its schedule to include a variety of classes for all levels and disciplines. The event which has grown in popularity has already attracted over 500 entries.
Now with a full Schedule, the annual event caters for all tastes and talents, with over 130 classes from which to choose. As well as the regular Showing and Working Hunter competitions, the fully packed schedule also incorporates Connemara, Mountain and Moorland and Breeding classes.
Amongst the Championships during the week is the “thetackroom.ie”. This Championship covers three disciplines – Young Handlers, Equitation and a Riding Class of the competitor’s choice from which points are accumulated with competitors from three “age” categories.
The Superfix Tom Robinson Gold Cup also allows competitors to combine their skills of Dressage, Working Hunter and Showjumping. Another popular event on the Schedule is the Freestyle Classes for Novice or Open ponies. There is also a selection of Equitation classes running alongside the final of the “snapitup.ie” Mini Equitation Series.
As in previous years the Show has attracted some of Ireland’s leading showing names many of whom are returning in a bid to defend or claim a title. Last year’s Supreme Champion, Annie Twomey on Valmore Irish Mist, will be aiming to repeat her success again this year as will the Reserve Supreme Champion Nicola Dee on Highland Jiva. Ciara Mullen, Charlotte Smiley and Ellie McDonnell, who have recently qualified for Horse of the Year (HOYS) may also be competing for a title.
Due to the popularity of the event, the Irish Pony Society has been fortunate to add to its list of Sponsors in 2013, such as Horse Sport Ireland, Goffs Country, Windsor Insurances, Sweeney Walsh Insurances, snapitup.com, Lambay Stud and other major companies such as Equest Pramox, Lexvet to name a few,
Late entries will be accepted on the day but do incur an extra charge. Stabling is available directly from Cavan Equestrian Centre.
Speaking ahead of the event Chairman, Niall O’ Connor said; “We are delighted that our Summer Championship Show continues to grow and with over 500 entries so far, 2013 will be no exception. The facilities at Cavan Equestrian Centre are some of the finest in the country and thanks to our many sponsors we are proud to confirm a prize fund of over €16,000 for our competitors. I look forward to welcoming everyone to the Show and have no doubt that those attending will have a very enjoyable time and wish them much success”.
