HSI Sport Horse Foal Qualifier Results

Three regional qualifiers of the Horse Sport Ireland sport horse foals championships took place this weekend at Mullingar Equestrian Centre (Region 1) on Saturday 18^th July, and both Newcastle West Show (Region 3) and Tubberbride Stables ( Region 5) on Sunday 19^th July.

The Sport Horse Foal Championship aims to identify, evaluate and reward breeders who have bred a foal that has the potential to be competitive at the highest International level in the disciplines of Show Jumping or eventing.

The winning foal in each category was awarded €750 with each runner up receiving €250.

For each regional championship entries are restricted to foals born within the respective region. The top show jumping and eventing colt and filly respectively from each regional qualifier will go forward to the final which take place at Millstreet International Horse Show on Sunday 16^th August.

Region 1 – Mullingar Equestrian Centre Qualifier

Show Jumping Foals

The potential Show jumping foals were judged first which was judged by Tiernan Gill and Richard Bourns.  The colt section was won by William Shanahan with a colt by Ringfort Cruise (ISH) out of Lux Alert (ISH) by Lux Z (HANN). The reserve was awarded to Sam Norris’s colt foal by Exxon Hedonist (SBS) out of Essenar Domina (ISH) by Luidam (KWPN).

The show jumping filly section was won by Derry Rothwell with a filly by Ars Vivendi (HOLST) out of Millennium Cruise (ISH) by Cruising (ISH). The reserve show jumping filly went to Tom McGurks foal by Kannan (KWPN), out of Foxy Cleopatra R (ISH) out of VDL Arkansas (KWPN).

Eventing Foals

The eventing section was judged by Diane Gibson and Janet Murray. The potential Eventing colt section was won by Patrick Carty with a colt by Porsch (BWP) out of Maser Smooth (ISH) by Kings Master (ISH). The reserve was awarded to Joan Dolan’s colt foal by Clover Brigade (ISH) out of Kilpatrick Treasure (ISH) by Master Imp (TB).

The top eventing filly foal was won by Miriam Cunning with a filly by Porsch (BWP) out of Sugar Cube (ISH) by Renkum Englishman (KWPN). The reserve eventing filly went to David Molloy’s foal by Casino Berlin (OLD) out of Portlaoise Diana (ISH) by Silvarado (TB).

Region 5 – Tubberbride Stables Qualifier

Eventing Foals

In Tubberbride the Eventing foals were judged first with judges Janet Murray and Paddy Hughes. The colt section was won by Andrew Ivan Gardiner with a colt by Road to Happiness (TB) out of Doonaveeragh Lisa (ISH) by Cruising (ISH). The reserve was awarded to Gerald Doherty’s colt foal by Tolan R (KWPN) out of Premier Harclo (ISH) by Harlequin Du Carel (SF).

The eventing filly section was won by Derek Jenning with a filly by OBOS Quality 004 (OLD) out of Another Dream (ISH) by Cavalier Royale (HOLST). The reserve eventing filly went to S & K Doherty’s foal by Mohill Cavalier Clover (ISH) out of Dubai Express (TB) by Xaar (GB) (TB).

Show Jumping Foals

The potential Show jumping foals were judged by Tom Slattery and Ger O’Sullivan.  The colt section was won by Henry Gardiner with a colt by S Creevagh Ferro Ex Siebe (KWPN) out of Fermoyle Jane (ISH) by Captain Clover (ISH). The reserve was awarded to Gerald Jenning’s colt foal by Kannan (KWPN) out of Chair Cavalier (ISH) by Cavalier Royale (HOLST).

The show jumping filly section was won by Patrick J Cooke with a filly by Ard VDL Douglas (KWPN) out of Leaving Cruise Mount (ISH) by Cruising (ISH). The reserve show jumping filly went to Daniela Schwander foal by For Pleasure (HANN), out of Fanningstown Princess (ISH) out of Flagmount King (ID).

Region 3 – Newcastle West Show Qualifier

Some 36 foals took part with 17 in the show jumping qualifier which was judged by Richard Bourns and Maurice Cousins. 19 foals took part in the Eventing qualifier which was judged by Diane Gibson and Terry White Snr.

Show Jumping Foals

The colt section was won by Andries de Bont with a colt by VDL Babalu (KWPN) out of Vamp (KWPN) by Colino (HOLST). The reserve was awarded to Brian Sheehan’s colt foal by OBOS Quality 004 (OLD) out of Keamore Hill Cruise (ISH) by Cruising (ISH).

The show jumping filly section was won by Tom Clancy with a filly by OBOS Quality 004 (OLD) out of TC Miss Cruise (ISH) by Cruising (ISH). The reserve show jumping filly went to John Lee foal by Lancelot (KWPN) out of Carrabawn Z (ISH) by Ricardo Z (ZANG).

Eventing Foals

The colt section was won by Thomas Horgan with a colt by Querlybet Hero (SBS) out of Cavalier Iris (ISH) by Cavalier Royale (HOLST). The reserve was awarded to Kieran O’Gorman’s colt foal by Munther (TB) out of Brookfield Miss Lux (ISH) by Lux Z (HANN).

The eventing filly section was won by Sarah Hickey with a filly by Sibon W (KWPN) out of Laharns Laughton (ISH) by Laughtons Flight (ISH). The reserve eventing filly went to Anna Kennedys foal by Barely a Moment (TB) out of KEC Sunny Girl (ISH) by Maltstriker (KWPN).

More regional qualifiers will be taking place next weekend at Creagh Equestrian Centre (Region 4) on the 26^th July.

It has also been confirmed that a leg of the series will take place in Northern Ireland on the 1^st August following a decision by the Northern Ireland Horse Board to provide funding for a Northern Ireland leg.
