Important update on SNP DNA samples/passport waiting times

Horse Sport Ireland (HSI) is pleased to provide a positive update around passport processing times and the use of SNP DNA samples.

The registration department has been working extremely hard to shorten waiting times and appreciates that breeders and owners have been frustrated recently.

As such, HSI and Weatherby’s Scientific have worked together to address processing delays caused by the transition phase to SNPs and to rectify issues that were causing higher-than-anticipated rates of hair samples being marked as unsuitable by the lab for SNP DNA testing.

Thankfully, these challenges have now been overcome and we expect a return to our normal processing times of foal passports (six to eight weeks) in the coming weeks.

We apologise for any delays experienced and we ask for your patience as we work through the backlog.

HSI expects over 500 foal DNA results to return from the lab in the coming days and to process these, our phone lines will operate on reduced opening times to enable us to work on the backlogs.

HSI reminds breeders to register foals ahead of the October 31st deadline to avoid increased fees.
