Ireland second in Pony Swiss Nations’ Cup

THE Irish quartet of Anna Carway, Tim McDonagh, Lucy Allen and Susan Fitzpatrick yesterday (Saturday) took second place in the Pony Swiss Nations’ Cup at Chevenez in Switzerland.

Fitzpatrick and Rock Dee Jay recorded Ireland’s only zero score in the first round, but Carway on Crown Jewel and McDonagh with The Galway Blazer added two more in the second round to secure Ireland’s runner-up spot behind Germany. A total of six nations took part.

Meanwhile, in the Junior classes at Chevenez, 18 year-old Bertram Allen has scored two top five places so far this weekend. Riding Ajaccio, the Wexford teenager placed second behind Switzerland’s Jean Maurice Brahier and Caipirina in Thursday’s two-phase competition, and fifth on the same horse in Friday’s speed class, which was won by another Swiss rider, Anthony Bourquard with Indiana des Abattes.

On Sunday, the Swiss Pony Grand Prix saw Anna Carway claim second place on Crown Jewel, with Susn Fitzpatrick third on Rock Dee Jay. The class was won by Austria’s Johanna Sixt with Lilly Vanilly.
