The Irish Show Jumping team has been named for tomorrow’s (Saturday) FEI Nations Cup at Gijon in Spain. Taylor Vard will be Irish Chef d’Equipe at the five-star fixture as Ireland try out some new combinations.
Ireland have been drawn seventh to jump of nine teams taking part, and will line out as follows:
Tipperary’s Shane Breen with Ipswich Van De Wolfsakker – owned by Breen Equestrian, Jos Lansink & Konstantin Pysarenko
Derry’s David Simpson with Keoki – owned by Julia Cruden
Mayo’s Cameron Hanley with Quirex – owned by Patrick Mielnik
Waterford’s Anthony Condon with Balzac – owned by Anthony Condon & Kat Taylor
Irish Chef d’Equipe Taylor Vard said:
“We are planning for 2018 by giving the two eight-year-old horses a chance at this show (Quirex & Keoki). It will also be a first Nations Cup for Ipswich Van De Wolfsakker under Shane Breen’s care. This will be a big test with nine teams taking part but spirits are high after Ireland’s amazing win at the European Championships in Gothenburg last week.”
Gijon is not part of the European Division 1 league which finished at Dublin at the start of this month. The Gijon Nations Cup starts at 12.45 Irish time and will be shown live on FEITV.
