An incredible run of results for Ireland at the five-star show at Lyon in France was crowned this afternoon, when no less than three Irish riders finished among the top 10 in the feature Longines World Cup Grand Prix.
Denis Lynch and All Star finished fourth in the Lyon World Cup and runners-up in the Lyon Masters
A sell-out crowd at the French venue watched on as Tipperary’s Denis Lynch scored a fourth place finish with Thomas Straumann’s 13-year-old stallion All Star. They briefly held the lead in the eight horse jump-off after jumping clear in 44.57 seconds when third to go against the clock. Another Tipperary rider, Shane Breen with the Breen Equestrian & P. Sultan-owned Golden Hawk, finished seventh overall, collecting valuable World Cup points to add to those won by Breen at Helsinki in Finland a week earlier.

Offaly’s Darragh Kenny and the McCahill family-owned Go Easy De Muze, lowered one fence in the first round, but a fast time saw them take 10th place on the final standings. Germany’s Daniel Deusser took the winners prize of €56,250 with Equita van T Zorgvliet, while Swiss rider Romain Duguet took runner-up spot with Quorida de Treho. Italy’s Lorenzo De Luca took the third spot on the podium with Ensor de Litrange LXII.
Ireland’s fantastic result in the World Cup competition comes on the back of a hat-trick of podium finishes for Irish riders at Lyon this weekend. On Friday night, Offaly’s Darragh Kenny (pictured above) finished as runner-up in the Longines Grand Prix with Go Easy De Muze, while Tipperary’s Shane Breen also finished in the top 10 with Golden Hawk. On Saturday afternoon, Cork’s Billy Twomey stormed to victory in the Two Phase competition with Joe Flynn’s Irish Sport Horse stallion Ardcolum Duke, while on Saturday night, Denis Lynch and All Star finished as runners-up in the Equida Masters.
