Upcoming webinar with World Horse Welfare CEO Roly Owers – a must see for all equestrians

Horse Sport Ireland is delighted to host World Horse Welfare CEO Roly Owers who will deliver a must-see webinar on the ‘Social Licence to Operate in Equestrian Sport’ on Tuesday, December 5^th at 7pm via Zoom.

“Whether horses are used in sport, for leisure or for breeding purposes, responsibility for their welfare rests on the shoulders of those who own, breed, train, ride and care for them.”

We as equestrians have a responsibility to make the right ethical choices for our horses, putting their welfare to the forefront at all times. Social licence to operate refers to the ever-changing attitudes of society and its acceptance or approval of the use of equines for sport or for working purposes.

Roly Owers, MRCVS, is a veterinary surgeon and has been the Chief Executive of World Horse Welfare (WHW) since 2008. The WHW is an international charity that strives to support and improve the horse-human partnership in all context and work with industry bodies to advise on how horses’ welfare can be protected both during and after their career in sport. WHW take a practical, pragmatic and caring approach to equine welfare in over 60 countries around the world, acting as advisors to governing bodies such as the FEI.

This webinar aims to raise awareness of our responsibilities to ensure that the welfare of our equines is at the forefront of our activities at all times. The presentation will introduce the concept of social licence in relation equestrianism and will discuss the actions stakeholders can take to be proactive in cultivating social licence to operate in equestrian sport and actively promote best practice for better equine welfare.

The webinar will include a presentation and talk followed by a Q&A session.

This event is a must for all equestrians, including HSI Coaches of all levels, affiliate members, riders, breeders, horse owners and anyone with an interest in the topic. Please note participants will need to register a Zoom account and pre-registration is required for access to the webinar.

1 CPD point will be awarded to HSI Accredited Coaches in attendance.
