Vard names Irish Sport Horse Studbook combinations for Valkenswaard

Horse Sport Ireland is delighted to announce the team of horses that will represent of the Irish Sport Horse Studbook at the inaugural WBFSH Studbooks Jumping Global Champions Trophy.

This first ever Inter-Studbook Team Championship will be held at the Longines Tops International Arena in Valkenswaard, Netherlands, from September 28^th to 1^st October 2023.

A total of 20 Irish-bred horses will represent the Irish Sport Horse Studbook across four age categories, 5-, 6-, 7- and 8-year-olds as selected by Horse Sport Ireland’s Showjumping Young Horse Team Chef d’Equipe Taylor Vard.

Speaking on the squad selected to compete in Valkenswaard, Vard said: “The WBFSH Studbooks Jumping Global Champions Trophy in Valkenswaard is taking place just four days after Lanaken finishes.

“We have teams comprising of five horses in all four age categories up to and including the 8-year-olds that are showing great potential.

“This has also opened an exciting opportunity for some of our young riders to take up some team positions along with some of our more experienced riders that will give them fantastic experience on such a prestigious stage, and I hope this exposure will help develop our young horses for the future.

”I’m very excited about this squad and hopefully we can continue our good form with the young horses and make Valkenswaard as happy a hunting ground as Lanaken has been for us over the years. A big thank you to the owners and riders for making their horses available to travel.”

Studbooks Operation Manager Paul O’Connor added: “We are delighted to be sending a 20-strong string of Irish Sport Horses to participate in the WBFSH Studbooks Jumping Global Champions Trophy in Valkenswaard.

“This is the first time such an event has been hosted by the WBFSH and follows a team jumping format versus the existing individual Young Horse Jumping World Championship in Lanaken.

“This event represents a unique opportunity to provide Irish breeders, owners, and producers the ability to campaign young Irish bred horses in an FEI sanctioned international showjumping team class, while representing the Irish Sport Horse Studbook.

”Participation in such events supports breeders and owners to add value to these horses, their damlines and market them to an international audience. I wish to thank the team Chef d’Equipe Taylor Vard for his work to date with these combinations and careful selection throughout the previous months.
