HSI Sport Horse Foal Qualifier Results – Wexford Equestrian Centre & The Meadows EC

The qualifiers of the Horse Sport Ireland sport horse foals championships took place at Wexford EC on the 18th of August and the Meadows EC on the 19th August.

The Sport Horse Foal Championship aims to identify, evaluate and reward breeders who have bred a foal that has the potential to be competitive at the highest International level in the disciplines of Show Jumping or eventing.

The top show jumping and eventing colt and filly respectively from each regional qualifier will go forward to the final which take place at Cavan Equestrian Centre on 26th August 2016.

Wexford EC Foal Qualifier Results

Eventing Foals

The eventing section were judged first by Diane Gibson and PJ Hegarty. The potential Eventing colt section was won by Bobby Moore with a colt by Cavalierland (ISH) out of Bouncing Spa (ISH) by Grange Bouncer (ID C1). The reserve was awarded to Pat Fenelon’s colt foal by Golden Master (TB) out of Ramble Way (ISH) by Diamond Lad (ID C1).

The top eventing filly foal was won by Derry Rothwell with a filly by Dignified Van’t Zorgvliet (BWP) out of Greenhall Dot (ISH) by Cruising (ISH). The reserve eventing filly went to Paschal Connolly’s  foal by Cobra (HOLST) out of Kilmanahan Ruby Diamond (ISH) by Colin Diamond (ISH).

Show Jumping Foals

The potential Show jumping foals were judged by Tiernan Gill and Jack Doyle.  The colt section was won by Sean Barron with a colt by Beowulf (ISH) out of Dream Striker (ISH) by Maltstriker (KWPN). The reserve was awarded to Lisa & Ann Cash’s colt foal by Billy Congo (AES) out of Back Chat (ISH) by Martell (ISH).

The show jumping filly section was won by Pam Walshe with a filly by Cornet Obolensky (BWP) out of Jump the Q (ISH) by OBOS Qualaity 004 (OLD). The reserve show jumping filly went to Claire McDonnell with a foal by For Pleasure (HANN), out of Annapurna (ISH) by Heritiage Fortunus (HANN).

Show Jumping Foals

The potential Show jumping foals were judged by Tiernan Gill and Richard Bourns.  The colt section was won by Jude Doherty with a colt by Plot Blue (KWPN) out of Ballintogher Ladybird (ISH) by Guidam (SF). The reserve was awarded to John McKibbin’s colt foal by Darco (BWP) out of Zidane VM (KWPN) by Heartbreaker (KWPN).

The show jumping filly section was won by Shirley & David Bothwell with a filly by Luidam (KWPN) out of Killadeas Cruz (ISH) by Cruising (ISH). The reserve was awarded to John McKibbin’s filly foal by Singular LS La Silla (KWPN) out of Ballintogher Whattababe (ISH) by Cruising (ISH).

Eventing Foals

The eventing section were judged by Diane Gibson and George Chapman. The potential Eventing colt section was won by Helen Troughton with a colt by Colandro (HOLST) out of Silken Twist (ISH) by Cornea Eagle (ISH). The reserve was awarded to Joanne Jarden’s colt foal by Ramiro B (BWP) out of MJI Mrs Maccricket (ISH) by Limmerick (HOLST).

The top eventing filly foal was won by Brian Clingham with a filly by Barely a Moment (TB) out of Rocknaree (ISH) by Clover Echo (ISH). The reserve was awarded to Leanne Connell’s filly foal by Mr Big Cat (TB) out of Corraghoe Dancer (ISH) by Crosstown Dancer (ID C1).

The final will take place at 6pm on Friday 26th August at Cavan Equestrian Centre where a pot of €10,000 will be on offer and two Champions will be named, Champion Showjumping Foal and Champion Eventing Foal. There will also be a special prize for the overall best traditionally-bred foal. The Showjumping Champion colt and filly will be offered free entry into the Cavan Elite Foal Sale taking place on the 22nd September at Cavan Equestrian Centre should their owners be interested in selling their foals.
