Ireland finish second at Swiss Pony Nations Cup in Chevenez

The Irish Pony team have finished as runners-up in today’s Nations Cup at Chevenez in Switzerland on a two round total of 20 faults, just two faults behind the winners from The Netherlands.

Cork’s Abbie Sweetnam (pictured below) was the star performer jumping a double clear round with Dynamite Spartacus. Harry Allen (Cassandra VH Roelhof) Robbie Clancy (For Kids Only) and Kate Derwin (Vales Blue Melody) all produced counting scores, with Katy Saunders acting as Team Manager. Germany finished third with 36 faults, while the home team from Switzerland took fourth place ahead of Belgium in fifth. The result also saw Ireland finish second overall in the European Pony Nations Cup league table, with Chevenez hosting the final leg.

Irish Pony riders have been in excellent form at Chevenez in the individual classes. Kate Derwin scored a win in Friday morning’s 1m20 pony class with Cul Ban Mistress, while Abbie Sweetnam finished third with Perseus Spartacus.  Kate Derwin scored another Irish win with Cul Ban Mistress in the 1m25 speed class where Abbie Sweetnam finished third with Perseus Spartacus.
Irish riders filled all of the top three places in Thursday’s 1m25 pony class. Harry Allen took the winners prize with Aughnashammer, while Abbie Sweetman finished as runner-up with Spartacus Reape and Kate Derwin grabbed third place aboard Vales Blue Melody.
